Glorify Thy Name

E-mail Print PDF

“There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.

 All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord,

and shall glorify your name.  For you are great and do wondrous things;

you alone are God.  Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth;

unite my heart to fear your name.  I give thanks to you, O Lord my God,

with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.  For great is your steadfast love toward me;

you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.”

Psalm 86:8-13

“There is none like you, O Lord.”  This is a common expression we see throughout Scripture, and this is where I believe abundant worship begins.  Hannah declared this in her prayer (1 Samuel 2:2), David prayed the same (2 Samuel 7:22), and Mary described this in her song of exaltation while echoing many of the words Hannah used (Luke 1:46-55).  In Psalm 86 (above), David declares the same.  He explains this statement further by acknowledging the works of the Lord to be unlike any other as well.  Going on, David identifies the Lord as the Creator of all things- the very place we began a few weeks ago in our sermon series, “The Six Essential Components of the Gospel.”  The outcome and purpose of all of this described by David and others is the glory of the Lord.  This is the entire purpose for our existence: to glorify the name of the Lord!

“When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said,

Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you,

since you have given him authority over all flesh,

to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.

And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God,

and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.  I glorified you on earth,

having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.

And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory

that I had with you before the world existed.’”

John 17:1-5

Father, we love You, we worship and adore You.

Glorify Thy name in all the earth.

Glorify Thy name, Glorify Thy name,

Glorify Thy name in all the earth.

Jesus, we love You, we worship and adore You.

Glorify Thy name in all the earth.

Glorify Thy name, Glorify Thy name,

Glorify Thy name in all the earth.

Spirit, we love You, we worship and adore You.

Glorify Thy name in all the earth.

Glorify Thy name, Glorify Thy name,

Glorify Thy name in all the earth.

The Bible Says:

For throughout all their journeys, the cloud of the LORD was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel.  (Exodus 40:38, NASB)
